Crazy Horse Memorial
Crazy Horse is a massive mountain-carving-in-progress dedicated to the Lakota leader who fought against the encroachment of settlers on Native American lands. Carved into Thunderhead Mountain, the monument was initiated by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski in 1948 to honor all North American native tribes. When completed it will be the world’s largest sculpture, featuring Crazy Horse on horseback pointing to his homelands in the distance. The project also includes an accompanying cultural and educational center to promote Native American history and culture.
